Druids&Co (General news) -- by yPArAH

Russobit-M continues it's advertising campaign dedicated to Celtic Kings: Rage of War and Cultures 2. There are a lot of Celtic Kings screenshots floating around, but here's something original. Two axe-slingers are fine for cheering someone up during this rainy Moscow day.

Now something from Cultures 2 for a change, shall we?

As usual, you can find all the necessary info at Russobit-M's HQ (here & there).

Mmm, yes, just one more thing. If you are particularly attracted to videos, here's a clip from Celtic Kings, accessible through one French site, here.

Empire of mages is near (General news) -- by yPArAH

The obviously coolest piece of Monday news is the announce of Empire of Magic, a turn-based strategy being developed by a Slovak team Mayhem Studios. Somewhat similar to Master of Magic, the game will (most likely) come out during September of this year.

Another interview (Dreamland) -- by yPArAH

New interview on UFO: Aftermath has seen the light on the pages of Wargamer.
Tech tree this time. 60 technologies in different science branches planned. Some will only become available with certain stuff captured (parts of downed UFO's, hostage aliens, etc).

Downed UFOs can crash land in the cities, forests, deserts and other pleasant locations. Cities, out of necessity, will be full of debris, destroyed buildings, car wrecks and such. Batlle tactics will, of course, differ from terrain to terrain.

The game will have three difficulty settings, which will determine the general alien agression level and game length. On the top difficulty the game will last from 60 to 80 hours.

Hope that helps...

No movies? (Dreamland) -- by yPArAH

Official UFO: Aftermath forum is lousy with developers' comments. According to one of them, only one feature from the original Dreamland design document remained intact - mission clip recording (for purpose of later reviewing as a tactical supporting material). Still, the developers hold serious doubts if this feature will actually make it into the game.

No longer a strategy (General news) -- by yPArAH

Last fall we published an artical about the fate of a strategical project Warhammer Online. Later it turned into an RPG. Firings in NWC were officially confirmed by Christian Vanover. He said a group of talented people has really left the company, yet we do not have to worry, for the company is still one big family. Yet, NWC will be developing only one game at the same time.

Just like the old days.

Bad outcome (FO 3) -- by yPArAH

Mmm-kay... here's the history of Fallout Fantasy developement. You can imagine the outcry generated by the rumor the project will be console-targeted. Fans and several journalists were outraged. The outcome was all but interesting - the famous DAC newsmaker, Killian, was fired by Gamespy, while the lead newsmaker informed the readers about the temporary service freezing.

Staff cuts? (HOMM4) -- by yPArAH

Breaking news came during the weekend from Actiontrip. According to their unnamed source, 3DO made serious cutbacks by firing about 2/3 of the 9 development team AND several 4 managers. Other NWC to move to the San-Fran offices at their own expense. None of the info is proved, but if it's true... We won't be hearing about 4 patches for a long time...

Fallout Fantasy! Drat... (FO 3) -- by yPArAH

About the yesterday's sensation, Fallout Fantasy... That's not Fallout 3 (thank Godness!), it's just a mere console game (YUCK!!!) being developed by Digital Mayhem. Uh-huh, the people behind Dark Alliance. What will the project look like? Unknown, but I hold one idea for certain - apart from having the word Fallout in the title and Power Armor in the gameplay, it will be NOT Fallout. Action. Arcade. "With RPG elements". Five words above are the facts, not assumptions.

Oh well. There goes IPLY index... There goes Interplay's reputation... There goes...?

The first unofficial intergalactic "Perimeter" resouce informed us about it's existence. As you might remember, the game is being developed by a Kaliningrad company K-D LAB - www.kdalb.com. The mentioned above resource vigilantly watches all the project developements.

There you can gem some very exclusive matherials: gameplay clips, music and wallpapers (as usual). Expected: developers' diaries.

Go, see, feel, understand.

Fantasy Fallout? (FO 3) -- by yPArAH

Some rumors about some Fallout Fantasy made it to my working desk. Fallout 3? Some other project? Unknown. It is said that the project will be announced during the next 3 by Interplay. I do not buy it, but we must accept the possibility of that. The due date is what confuses me. September 2002. If anything like this exits, it must really be from the Fallout universe. An arcade game, perhaps?

I know, I know, I'm way behind the schedule of news updating. Mercy, people - it is damn difficult to even get out of bed during severe illness.

Strategy/tactics (Dreamland) -- by yPArAH

More or less boring (for me): yet another interview about UFO: Aftermath. This time ALTAR PR told commoners about some interesting facts from the game. Four weapon classes for humans: rifles, machine guns, grenade launchers and shotguns, more then 40 items total. Aliens, you guessed, will have their own weapons, including biological and psionic ones.

As an addition, the lead designer told something about the game tactics. According to him, authomatic UFO interception will not imply the linear structure of the game. A successful interception will generate a mission. Missions will vary - from recovering a downed UFO and countering an assault to breaking through enemy lines and defending the base. Basically, the strategy of the game will be choosing the "correct" missions to maintain and increase your presence in the region.

Need details? (Dreamland) -- by yPArAH

On the UFO: Aftermath forum Martin Klima left several messages worth knowing:
- some alien devices won't be usable by humans, others could be modified and thus will be;
- some fighters will have the ambidextrious trait and will be able to fire two different weapons simultaneously (will require a specila skill or a high level of Agility);
- no fire when on march;
- save whenever you feel like to;
- conventional terran wepons will be of unlimited supply, but not all models will be available from the beginning;
- converted alien wepons are to be invented and manufactured. After that the situation with them will be similar to the conventional weapons;
- real alien weapons can be only salvaged during operations and cannot be reproduced.

AFD stands for April Fool's Day, people. The particular piece of news about Ferg was a J-O-K-E. So stop sending me maiil saying "You might have been fooled, yP" or "Does that mean we will never get FO3?", OK?

Going into details (Dreamland) -- by yPArAH

Here's a big interview about UFO: Aftermath. Here are some interesting moments.
First: developers confirmed the rumor, that all the campaign missions will be generated randomly, not pre-defined.
Second: editor will appear in the I-net a little bit later as a separate file.
Third: confirmed - no multiplayer.
Fourth: main game idea is territory domination (that's X-Com, suprise, suprise).
Fifth: destroyable terrains will be available, but you won't be able to play TOTAL DESTRUCTION WOW!!! Tough luck.

Hope that helps.

We'll play over the net, but later (Dreamland) -- by yPArAH

We stubled upon two interesting topics on the UFO: Aftermath forum. Both were started by the developers.

Number one is about multiplayer. Or, what's better to say, no multiplayer. It is difficult to make something like this with the current game system. Thus,ALTAR is planning to make a multiplayer add-on if the game is a success.

Number two considers strategy. Earth will host from 40 to 80 bases. Player will start with one and will capture (?) others later. Bases differ. Each base can act as a research center or a military stronghold. The more RCs you have, the faster the reseach and gadget making is conducted.

That's all (for now, on the topic), folks!
